How do you change the angle of a gradient if you are using the live paint...

...tool in illustrator? I am having a rough patch. I have tried alot of different things like selecting the enclosing paths and trying to make the paths into a group 1st. I cant change the angle of my gradients at all even with the gradient angle box or the gradient tool inside of this live paint area. Arrgh Please help!
