How long would it take for the Linux kernel to compile on my PC?

AMD Athlon 64X2 3600
2 GB DDR2-PC5300 RAM
Geforce 7600GT

It's taking too long
I'm growing impatient :-|
I've already waited like 10 minutes! ajghjkgsjlhaljdfkl;

Also, I'm building a .deb package. I read somewhere that I can use the deb package on other systems, is this true?
