IPod linux manual install on 2nd gen nano throws an error?

I've tried to manually install iPod Linux on my 2nd generation nano. Now i know that the installer doesn't work on 2nd gen nanos, so please don't reply with that bit of information. When i try to run ./ipodpatcher --scan, it throws an error message that reads: [ERR]No iPods found. My iPod is plugged in (i've tried this in both windows and linux with the ipod mounted and unmounted). Am I doing something wrong?
