Pyhton, Postgresql Too Many Open Connections!?

We're having issues with DB connections staying open on our app which is causing it slow down and/or lock. Its built django, python and postgresql (although we are testing MySQL right now).

On smaller tests it was OK but as it scaled up to full load something casues it to become erratic.

Any ideas?
