Do torrent sites give you viruses?

I am trying to download a game off a torrent site, but im not sure if it gives you a virus. I obviously dont want the virus and my Antivirus isn't the greatest blocker. Do you know any way to insure safety or things to look out for?

Or any torrent site that you know for sure has clean files that wont hurt my computer?
