Linux/Unix is the core (kernel) of a free operating system. There are many pros and cons to it as opposed to windows or mac operating systems. Linux is FREE and Mac/Windows are not. Linux is not plagued by virus/malware issues that are seen with Windows based Operating Systems. Linux requires somewhat of a learning curve as it is NOT IDENTICAL to Windows.

I personally use Linux every day on my personal PCs and use Windows on my work PC. I would use Linux at work if they would let me but alas our MIS group wouldn't approve.

It is hard to explain Linux to you...it would be best if you were to simply EXPERIENCE Linux. I would suggest you go to www.ubuntu.com and download the most current version of the software and burn that to a CD. With the CD in the drive you can boot and choose the option Try Ubuntu without any change to my PC.

More than likely you will see that it is very intuitive and easy to use.
