I have a Tadpole SPARCLE UNIX Laptop and I don't know what operating system it takes. I believe its UNIX /Linux however I don't know how to install it.

The Tadpole SPARCLE shipped with Solaris 8. It is also possible to install Linux on it. Note that Solaris 10 and most Linux distros that support SPARC processors aren't particularly user-friendly. To boot from an install CD (either Solaris or another operating system) you enter boot cdrom at the Open Firmware prompt. The version of Solaris that came with the notebook is not legally redistributable, but Solaris 10 is (the machine will have to have a DVD drive to use the latest releases):

If you want a "no nonsense" install of Solaris on that particular laptop, you will want to go get the Tadpole Solaris 10 ISO for doing the install.

You will also need a Solaris 10 03/05 (sparc) DVD as well.

Tadpole did a pretty amazing job (especially at that time) of making that machine work, completely. I.e. the wireless, sound, video, battery monitor, etc... all works. With a sparc release. This seems like a small task, but if you take the time to simply install a Sun release, you will see exactly how difficult it is to make everything work.

I don't recall the specific steps, but I believe you boot from the Tadpole DVD and it will later ask for the Solaris 10 DVD.
